Overview

Kunchikal Falls is the tallest waterfall in India, situated deep within the lush forests of the Western Ghats near Agumbe in Shivamogga district. The waterfall is created by the flowing waters of the Varahi River and drops from an impressive height of around 455 meters (1,493 feet).

The falls descend through a series of cascading streams over steep rocky cliffs, surrounded by dense rainforest that forms part of the rich ecosystem of the Western Ghats. Because of the nearby Varahi Hydroelectric Project, direct access to the waterfall is restricted and visitors typically require special permission. Despite this, the surrounding region is renowned for its breathtaking natural scenery, diverse wildlife, and tranquil environment.

The best time to witness the beauty of the falls is during the monsoon season from June to September, when the water flow is at its peak. The region around Agumbe is also known as one of the wettest places in South India and is famous for its rich rainforest ecosystem and remarkable biodiversity. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒง๏ธ
