Originally built between the 11th and 13th centuries by the Chalukyas and Hoysalas, Chitradurga Fort was later extensively expanded by the Nayakas of Chitradurga during the 15th to 18th centuries, transforming it into a formidable stronghold in Karnataka’s military history.
Chitradurga Fort is famously called “Kallina Kote” (Stone Fortress) and “Yelusuttina Kote” (Seven Circles Fort), named for its imposing granite construction and seven concentric defensive walls, expertly designed to provide layered protection against invasions.
