📜 About
- Declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1974 and upgraded to a Tiger Reserve in 2010.
- Covers an area of around 574 sq. km.
- Named after Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (dedicated to Lord Ranganatha) located on a hilltop.
- Famous for its unique mix of flora and fauna due to the merging of two mountain ranges.
🌿 Flora
- Tropical dry deciduous, moist deciduous, and evergreen forests.
- Rich vegetation with sandalwood, bamboo, teak, and medicinal plants.
🐾 Fauna
- Big Cats: Tigers, Leopards.
- Other Mammals: Elephants, Sloth Bears, Wild Dogs (Dholes), Gaurs, Antelopes, Deer species (Sambar, Chital, Barking Deer).
- Birds: Over 250 species – including hornbills, woodpeckers, and Malabar Whistling Thrush.
- Reptiles: Snakes, monitor lizards, and other reptiles common to the region.
